Station 1 – Pulping and pulp treatment : Pulping and pulp treatment equipment can be used in a batch or continuous mode running from pulping to thickening, and with process water recirculation as required. Sensors deployed in the distributed control system (DCS) facilitate process control and monitoring. Measurements from the sensors are centralized and processed for process regulation and data archiving.
Station 2 – Pulp thermoforming : Supported by the Industrial Research Chair in Ecodesign for a Circular Economy of Thermoformed Cellulosic Pulp Packaging Materials, Innofibre’s state-of-the-art equipment in the field of thermoformed pulps makes it possible to meet the demand of Canadian and international companies that wish to turn to more environmentally friendly products, particularly for 3D compostable cellulosic packaging.
Station 3 – Papermaking : Innofibre’s pilot paper machine is without a doubt one of the most efficient in the world. Installed in 2006-2007, it is estimated to be worth over $15 million. With its top former and complete dryer, it can produce paper from 30 to 300 g/m2 at speeds between 200 and 1000 m/min. It also has an advanced control system and the most advanced in-line paper analysis scanner in North America.
Station 4 – Paper surface coating : Versatile and flexible coating unit to meet the needs of the paper and packaging industry to improve their products or develop new ones. The unit allows the application of coating on a substrate by extrusion, sizing press or engraved roll. The pilot unit also allows the lamination of two substrates together.
Station 5 – Paper, cardboard and thermoformed pulp analysis : The various analytical services offered by Innofibre cover the range of physical and optical tests, analytical chemistry, microscopy, image analysis, not to mention the frequent collaborations and the efforts devoted to the development of new analytical procedures. The tests are carried out according to the standards in the industry: TAPPI, ISO, ASTM, etc.
Station 6 – Cellulose foam making : Biosourced foams can be produced from a variety of cellulosic fibers. They are 100% biosourced, recyclable, compostable and do not contain synthetic fibers. With a density lower than 100 kg/m³, these foams have interesting properties as thermal insulator and shock absorber.
*Please select optional tour during registration, if interested in participating.
Optical sorting (Optional visit) : Optical sorting is done by analyzing the spectral signatures of the materials to be sorted. The device can read near-infrared (NIR) and visible (VIS) frequencies, and automatically separate the defined categories of materials using the spectrometer, through pneumatic distributor bars.
